We support the Cornell Bioinformatics Facility in offering a wide variety of excellent short workshops. Topics have included bioinformatics, genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS), Linux, use of cloud-like CBSU/3CPG Bio-computing Lab computers for large-scale genome analysis, RNA-Seq, and reference genome based sequence variation detection. A list of upcoming and past workshops is available here. We welcome suggestions for future workshops - email us your suggestions here.
3CPG co-sponsored the Population Genomics of Nonmodel Organims Workshop, held at Cornell from July 23-24, 2013. All materials (including videos of lectures) are available here.

List-serves for Seminars
To receive information by email about upcoming seminars, join the Evolgen_Seminars-L list-serve by sending an email to Evolgen_Seminars-Lemail@example.com with a blank subject line and the single word "join" in the body of the message.
List-serves are also available for the Molecular Biology and Genetics (mbgfridayseminar-Lfirstname.lastname@example.org) and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (eandsseminar-Lemail@example.com) seminar series.
The Evo-group seminar series meets the first Thursday in the month within each semester from 4-5 pm in the Morison Room of Corson Hall. Two speakers from different areas of evolutionary biology present at each meeting. Contact person is Jeremy Searle (jeremy.searle at cornell.edu). To join the Evo-group list-serve, please send an e-mail to evo-group-Lfirstname.lastname@example.org with the message "join".
Our first annual 3CPG Research Retreat, open to all members and their labs, was held Monday June 21, 2010 at Johnson Center for Birds and Biodiversity (e.g., the Cornell Lab of Ornithology just off campus). The event was a full day and will include morning and afternoon sessions with short talks by participating labs, posters, coffee breaks, lunch, and an afternoon reception. It was a great success with over 100 participants and 20 of 26 faculty participating and with representatives of all labs.
The 2011 3CPG Research Retreat was held Thursday June 23, 2011 at the James A. Baker Institute for Animal Health just east of Ithaca with a capacity participation of 110 participant, and excellent representation by 3CPG faculty and labs.
There are several journal clubs on campus that may be of interest to the 3CPG community. Below is an incomplete list.
- Current Topics in Population Genetics and Genomics (contact: Philipp Messer; messer at cornell.edu; also run as BTRY 6890) [spring semesters]. BTRY 6890 (1 cr): Graduate seminar on current topics in population genetics. Readings are chosen primarily from current scientific literature. Participation in discussion and presentation of at least one paper required for course credit.
- Center for Vertebrate Genomics journal club holds discussions of current articles drawn from broad, interdisciplinary topics which describe useful approaches, tools, and resources in genomics. Graduate students and post-docs in CVG labs will choose the topics/articles and lead the discussion. All CVG members and lab members are encouraged to attend. Meetings will be once per month, informal, with snacks and drinks provided. (contact: Charlotte Williams, cw25 at cornell.edu)
